Are Balayage and Ombré the same thing?

Salon Menu

We get a lot of questions about balayage and ombré. And our clients often want to know if balayage and ombré are the same thing. The answer is: they are not the same.

So, what's the difference? To put it simply, balayage is a hand-painted application of highlights usually intended to make your look like it is sun-kissed. You know, that "late summertime" look. Ombré is a two-toned hair color effect that is typically darker at the roots and lighter at the ends. Ombré can be very dramatic or quite subtle depending upon our client's wishes.

The colors used with both balayage and ombré can vary, and are somewhat dependent upon your natural hair color. Kim can help you understand your options here, and, of course, you can and should search the web to see what different colors can look like.

Kim can also combine balayage and ombré, and this is called flamboyage. Flamboyage is an ombré look with some sun-kissed highlights added in. It's a gorgeous combination, and it might be right for you.
