Are Balayage and Ombré the same thing?

Salon Menu

Our clients often want to know if balayage and ombré are the same thing. The answer is: they are not.

So, what's the difference? To put it simply, balayage is a hand-painted application of highlights usually intended to make your hair look like it is sun-kissed. You know, that "late summertime" look. Ombré is a two-toned hair color effect that is typically darker at the roots and lighter at the ends. Ombré can be very dramatic or quite subtle depending upon your wishes.

You will select the colors that you'll use with balayage or ombré. Color selection is somewhat dependent upon your natural hair color, and Kim can help you understand your options here. We also recommend that you search the web to see what different colors can look like.

You can also combine balayage and ombré, and this amazing fusion is called flamboyage. Flamboyage is an ombré look with some sun-kissed highlights added in. It's gorgeous, and it might be right for you.

Kim Catalano is a master colorist, and she specializes in balayage and ombré. Contact her now to schedule your appointment.
